This special wallpaper is inspired by a building constructed in the mid-19th century on the site of the notorious Marshalsea prison, where London's debtors were imprisoned, including Charles Dickens' father in 1824.

The design is based on the oldest recovered fragment of four layers of wallpaper pasted on top of each other. The Gothic grid pattern with Moorish influences first adorned the walls of the new building, constructed in the late 1870s to replace the prison. The luxurious black and gold color scheme gives the wallpaper a dramatic and elegant appearance, perfect for living rooms, studies, or stylish reception rooms.
